I'll just pick out my two favorite characters so I don't bore you with my character's backsroties (an RP'er, zOMG):

Chaotic Justice (R/W): I don't know exactly where I picked up this name, and it doesn't fit a character too well (was my first character). I've been "Justice" on a lot of forums for a while, and the Chaotic part kinda just popped up one day. Name's stuck now.

Yue Usagi (Mo/x): This one is so lame it's great. Yue = "Moon" in Chinese. Usagi = "Rabbit" in Japanese. She uses the English naming convention. I'm so nerdy, it hurts.

My ele is Eagce Rayole - a combination of names i use on other forums
my necro is Deathal Razer - because he raises dead and it looked better than Death raiser
my mesmer is Mesmerizing chic - well its a girl mesmer
Ranger is Ms Wild Beauty - Girl character, Wild is reference to wilderness survival attribute line
Monk is Beauty of smite - Was going for a beauty theme with a reference to a attribute line like the ranger
Warrior is Beauty of strength - same reason as monk
Assassin is Deadly Dagger chic - Girl character uses daggers and the deadly arts attribute line (beauty wouldnt fit)
Ritualist is Beauty Ritual - again the beauty thing and shes a ritualist

For pvp charcters I'll go on what their role is or just some crazy stuff. Also sometimes use some type of "Frog" reference.

Started with a basic "family story" backstory for my characters; worked until Factions came along and I created my 'sin.

Surname for the sisters is Caoimhe (KWEE-va), an Irish name meaning, roughly, "a beautiful girl, exhibiting gentleness, lovlieness." The backstory is, essentially, all of the Caoimhe sisters come from a loving family; their father had been the town's blacksmith apprentice until shortly after Niamh (the second girl) was born, when he stepped into the Master's role, and their mother had been a tutor and archivist, who had read many of Ascalon's great works and had transcribed quite a few as well. Both parents encouraged their girls' independence, and destiny would eventually take them to Ascalon.

The oldest sister is Muireann (MWIR-an), Irish, roughly meaning "sea-white, sea-fair." W/Mo20, fun-loving, adventurous, but compassionate about the people she's with. As far as in-game, that translates into a W/Mo who spends about half of her time trying to use what little energy she has to throw heals at other party members, while trying to keep the baddies off of the spell-slingers' backs. Muireann is definitely not a "wade-in-and-whack-everything" W/Mo.

Next in line is Niamh (NEEV), also Irish, meaning "brightness or radiance." In the family, she is the next one down from Muireann, and her name has a delicious irony to it. You see, Niamh likes playing with the things her big sister kills. Unlike many of the necros in the game, Niamh doesn't try to cultivate the dark and gloomy aspects of her necromancy; rather, she seems to think it's all great fun. Minions make great pets, and you don't really have to worry about feeding or cleaning up after them.

Next in line is little Flidais (FLEE-daws). Irish, refers to a woodland goddess reknowned for her... "exuberance." Ranger (obviously) who suffered from middle-child syndrome until she started to make her own way, she prefers to travel alone wherever possible, relying on her own ability to avoid trouble rather than court it. This caution has tended to limit her adventures somewhat, as there are few places in Tyria where it is safe to go alone.

Lastly, there's the youngest, Aine (AWN-ya). Irish as well (detect a trend?) meaning, "radiance, brilliance." Aine learned early in her life how to take care of herself, as well as her rambunctious, adventurous sisters; her abilities with herbs and salves to soothe injured limbs, as well as her gentle, quiet compassion made her a natural healer, which is what attracted her to the monastery. Now a full-fledged monk, Aine says little, and prefers to focus on maintaining the health and protection of those with whom she travels.

Unrelated, my Factions 'sin, Michiko Tsuyu (Michiko = "beautiful, wise child" Tsuyu = "morning dew"). "Morningdew" was a name I used for several characters, both tradition P&P RPGs as well as PC games like Daggerfall (way back when.) Michiko is a name I have always thought to be pretty. She was created very early one morning during the FPE; I had Michiko in mind, but couldn't come up with a reasonable surname. Factions, with it's strong Asian influence, seemed like a good time to try out the name, but I needed a surname. Like all good inspiration, my eyes were half shut when I remembered the "Morning dew" name. A quick translation later, and I had the name. I like it so far.

I have one more, a male ranger, when I don't feel like being harassed.

Wow. What a tome. Thanks for reading!

Heh, Most of my characters are an homage to an RPG that my Brother, my friends and I created and used to play from grade school to early college! My characters have names that end with a place from the game, so it's a nice Tip o the hat:

Leilia of Berkinji
Aria of NorthIsle
Tal of Aminh

All my characters names are based on looks.

Kulev Houngan (Necro) - Black Skin, White Hair, Bone Staff

Kulev: A serpent
Houngan: Top voodoo priest

Legolas Ravenwood (Ranger) - White Skin, White Hair, White Armour

Legolas: Famous archer from LOTR
Ravenwood: Random surname

Thief Garrett (Assassin) - Currently Training

Whole name taken from my favorite single player game series Thief!

I've been putting Sage in the names of my characters (such as Sage Medicine Man for my Monk or Cursed Sage for my Necro), you know, older and wiser (being as I'm 45 and been playing for just about 1 year now).

and as for names that are questionable, even if it lets you create a name that would be bad, I've reported on very objectionable names and I've noticed how that name doesn't exist anymore afterwards, so they do listen.

My warrior is Overlord Bacchus

Bacchus: After the 5th century BC, Dionysus the Greek God of wine became known in Roman and Greek mythology as Bacchus. The son of Zeus (Jupiter), Bacchus is usually characterized in two ways: The god of vegetation, wine and cheer or a deity who inspired ecstatic, orgiastic worship. The name refers to the loud cries with which he was worshipped at the Bacchanalia, frentic celebrations in his honour that were banned by the Roman Senate in 186 BC.

Powers: Ecstacy -- madness in his followers, Baco, dios de la viña, del vino y del delirio Báquico (Bacchus, God of wine and delirium)

My ranger, monk, and warrior are all variations on Petite Diablesse. Translates to 'little she-devil' and goes back to the characters I would play on some of the Neverwinter Nights modules way back when.

My now-deleted necro was named Nightshade Kiss. I figured nightshade was a suitable image for a necromancer.

My assassin is named Petite Morte or 'little death'. It's a name I'd been trying to get for awhile now, but it's always been in use. Finally, around the Factions weekend event, I was able to snake the name away.

My nuker I named Petite Requiem just 'cause I couldn't think of anything better.

My pets are a spider by the name of Iway Fodder and a phoenix by the name of Rank Twelve.

Tristan Taylor------Elem/Mes----I've liked the name Tristan since I read The Moonshea Trilogy of books, so when I made my first character, I had to use it, though I went Elem. As for Taylor, I was on a kick about using a last name with the same first letter as that of the first name. On a side note, while searching online for names for new characters I stumbled upon a site that said Tristan Taylor is one of Yugi's best friends in Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Exitus Acta Probat----War/Monk----Roughly translates to "The ends justify the means." Now I think it would have been better for a Ranger.

Sic Erat In Fatis----Rit/Monk----Means "So it was fated" roughly "it happened how it was supposed to", or so I read somewhere. Again, seems more fit for a Ranger, but oh well.

Fates Dark Angel----Assassin/Ranger----A Dark person(an assassin) forced by Fate(series of events in game) to become an Angel(or "Good Guy"). This was a name I originally intended to use for a Necro/Monk, but decided against it when I realized I could still use the meaning I put behind it.

Life Of The Party---Monk/Necro----Like that wasn't an obvious one, huh? I was just surprised to find that wasn't used.

As for my pets, my favorite PS2 games are the Xenosaga sereis(not Xenogears, different series) So my Desert lizard is Rubedo, and my Crane is named Albedo. Sometimes my Necro/Ranger's pet becomes Mobile Corpse so I don't feel so bad when he dies.

Circling Skies and Earthbound Misfit come from the song "Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd. I did have a range named Comfortably Numb but she is no longer with us. When I first started I tried to keep all my names Pink Floyd related so my guildmates could tell it was me.

My necro Rhavin Ashaman is a blended name taken from the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan. These book must be a popular source for names because I tried a billion different ones from the books and they were all in use

My Assasin is Shogun Mifune. I love the book Shogun by James Clavell and the main japanese character Toranaga was played by Toshira Mifune in the movie version of Shogun.

I was in one of the outposts in the desert once, and there were about fifteen players hanging around with names based on Wheel of Time characters.

It seems I put far less thought into my character names than I was previously aware! I tend to go for things that just sound nice. I try to keep them marginally descriptive or flavored to the class or appearance, but that's really it.

Black Autumn the Necromancer, Autumn Skye the Elementalist, Sweet Venom the Mo/Me (Sweet for the Monk and Venom for the Mesmer), Raspberry Cordial the Ranger, Myriel Wartongue the Warrior, and Cosy Lee the Ritualist.

Oh, but I did name my Melandru's Stalker Josie because she's a pussycat. Terribly original, I know. So, uh, there you go. =D

My character's names are...well, derived from a variety of sources:

King Templar (elementalist, has been deleted): My first character, I've used the name King Templar after some funky text stuff that I saw in a StarCraft map. Since forums don't accept ]{ing ']['emplar, I changed it. Usually has an underscore between King and Templar. No relation to the guild named Knight's Templar.

Arath Salachtir (Mesmer, deleted): Name is an editted spelling of a phrase that means "Destroy them" in a language I was/am working on developing.

Aerithos Yggdrasill (Originally ranger, replaced by a necro which I still have): Slightly modified version of Mithos Yggdrasill, a character from Tales of Symphonia, a game that everyone should go out and at least try, because it kicks butt.

Baratus of Hexen (Warrior): The name of the Fighter class character from the game Hexen. If he has the ranger secondary, his pet is a spider named Korax, the multi-armed boss from Hexen. Used him while founding my current guild, Followers of Korax.

Sientir of the Void (Monk): Sientir is the leader of the Voidmasters. Entire thing was spawned by an RP and an obsession with the Dark Archons from StarCraft.

Will of Sientir (Canthan Ranger): I used the name for my PvP character for a time, and I felt like reviving it. It simply is a stating the the character executes the will of Sientir.

Legendary Sanashi (PvP char, female): Note that all preceding characters are male. You kinda feel like mixing things up after a while, or at least, I do. So I decided to make my PvP character female. The name Will of Sientir was exclusively male, so creating a female character under the monicor felt awkward, at best. In my previous guild, Oni Musha Warlords, there was some sort of naming thing going on with everyone making a character named Legendary something. The leader's name had Musashi in it, and I used that for the inspiration for Sanashi.

Sanashi Shadowblade (Assassin): Again, using the Sanashi name. Shadowblade seemed to fit an Assassin to me. This character is also female.

As a note, the mentioned deleted characters have all beaten the game; I wanted to try it with different professions (Prophecies).

I remember posting in a thread like this a long while ago, but here goes.

Dion Phaneuf - Warrior - Favourite hockey player, super rookie of the NHL. =D

Harlequin Forest - Ranger - A song by Opeth.

Rusting Water - Necromancer - Sounds funny. Water shouldn't rust. Unless I've been misinformed.

Frost of Winter - Ritualist - Based off of 'Into the Frost of Winter'. Another Opeth song.

Jessie Tuirc - Monk - Random first name. Tuirc? Stolen from my best e-friend.

Emily Tuirc - Warrior - Random first name. Tuirc? Once again, stolen.

Demon of the Spring - Mesmer - Based off of the song 'Demon of the Fall', but was already taken. Also a song by Opeth.

And there you have it. My list of crappy character names.

I picked mine at random as mine don't really mean much.

I picked Misty Maiden as in the Glint Eastwood movie play misty with me then I thought of Maiden and voila Misty Maiden for my main char now.

My other one is my W/Mo being Misty Mortana in beta it was the other way around as she was my Mo/W for beta playing mostly in the Tomps.

There is my Ranger as well being Misty Morgana kind of like Morgana in king Arthurs day a little bit of a trouble make and always running off R/N

I made an ele up and it is now Misty Maiweather of course haveing to deal with weather changesEle/Mes.

There are my PvP char which is alway Mighty Mortak another name since beta I did have a Mighty Red.

My Secound acct. agina another Misty Maidan just so those that know it is me a Mo/E

There is my secound Warrior as well name Misty Deathrae being a W/R.I have 2 other char thatg et deleted quite often so no real name there.

Well, when I RA on my Monk pvp, I use the name Deliverance Toll.
Why?
Well let's just say I charge a small toll for your deliverance to safety.
You listen to what the dear MONK says, and I heal you. Simple as that

You pay attention, and I deliver you from death

I generally go for the title in the name, gotta use it in the games you can.
Moridrin the Foul -> necro
Pantalon the Bold -> warrior
and so on.. quite fun actually.
